Blurb:

A modern day thrill ride, where a teen girl and her animal companion must participate in a breathtaking race to save her brother's life-and her own.

Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying-and she's helpless to change anything.

Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.

The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?

My Review:
**4.5 Stars**
I received a copy of this book from Scholastic for an honest review.

Um... next book NOW! (Please) I don't even know where to begin. This book is an amazing must read. The story sucks you in right from the beginning and doesn't let you go... ever.

Tella's character is fascinating. On the outside she doesn't seem like the type of person who would risk her life to save her brother, but she is so much more complex on the inside. The one flaw I had with her is how she was able to survive on her own as long as she did. For someone who really wasn't that athletic and did not have much "outdoors" experience, she did really well.

The best.... and I do mean, best... character in the whole book is Maddox. The book is really all about him. Just kidding, but really, he is so cute and perfect! I love the connection he and Tella have immediately. I know it is engineered, but it just feels so much more than that.

If there is only one new release you read in 2014... make sure this is it!
