"They say the truth can set you free. I found out it can kill you."

Seventeen-year-old Kat Matheson has never revealed the dark secret that sets her apart from everyone else: She can see and hear the dead. Until now, she has been able to ignore the strange apparitions and whispering voices. But it may not be that simple anymore. Haunted by eerie visions and increasingly frightening nightmares, Kat begins to fear she may be the target of a dark and ominous force from beyond the grave. Complicating matters is the arrival of her new neighbor, a young man she instinctively distrusts but is inexplicably drawn to. Gorgeous and mysterious, he seems to hold a disturbing knowledge of her long-held secrets.

As she desperately tries to maintain control, events take an unexpected and violent turn. Discovering that nothing is what it seems and that her psychic abilities may involve far more than just communing with the dead, Kat may be forced to confront her worst fears and the powerful curse that controls her destiny.

My Review:
**4 Stars**
I received a copy of this book for an honest review as part of this blog tour.

MY OVERVIEW: Ok, I have to go "fan-girl" here for a minute... Within Temptation is an awesome band and I was thrilled and surprised to find them mentioned in this book. Not many people know of them. Ok, I am done now, onto the book... I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I think that everything Kat went through to try and extinguish her powers was interesting. It would seem like a very very hard secret to keep and she did it very well.

PROS: I really liked Rachel. There is something different about her though, and I hope we find out exactly what in the next book. Rick is also great. I am so on team Rick. (Nope, don't like Lovell at all.)

CONS: Not the most original story out there. There were a few times while reading it, that I was thinking "Haven't I read this somewhere before?" Also, apparently Kat comes from a line of women with powers, yet it is never fully explained why her mother and grandmother don't seem to have any.

MY FINAL THOUGHTS: There are a lot of questions left unanswered and I look forward to finding out the answers in the next book.

Author Interview:

1) Katriona and Lovell are such different names. How did you come up with them?
I knew I wanted my main character to be named Katriona, or Kat, as soon as I came up with the concept for the book. I think it's a beautiful name and it fits with her Scottish heritage. Lovell was a little more difficult. I wanted him to have an unusual name, but not one that you hear or see very often, especially in YA fiction. I put a lot of thought into it and spent a considerable amount of time researching names and their origins and meaning. When I came across Lovell, it just seemed to fit.

2) Who was your favorite character to write and why?
My favorite character to write was Kat. I loved taking her from a very innocent, naive girl to someone forced to confront her fears and see the world and everything around her in a new light; to someone who says, "No more. This is where it ends." Her transition from shy introvert to a young woman of great strength and courage is a great writing experience.

3) Can you give us a hint as to what to expect in the next book?
Book 2 in the series really elevates the action. Things get pretty intense very quickly, and Kat finds herself in some perilous situations. There will be some new characters who are introduced, both good and bad, that play an important role. Readers will also gain a greater insight into Lovell and his background, as well as the dark curse that hangs over Kat and the extent of her powers. You'll also start to see a shift in the dynamics of Kat's relationships with those around her.

4) Coffee, tea, or neither?
Tea! Preferably iced, at all times.

5) Do you have any advice to give aspiring authors?
Read, read and read some more! The more you read, the better writer you will become. Always work on honing your craft, and experiment with different forms of writing (first person, present tense; third person, past tense; informational; journalistic, etc.) Most importantly, never give up. Perseverance is key.

About the Author:

Molly M Hall is the author of Reckoning, the first novel in the Dark Prophecy series. She has spent most of her life in Colorado and currently lives just outside of Denver. She pursued a degree in English Literature at Columbia College, and worked in the corporate world for several years before turning to writing full time.                                                                     When not reading or writing, she can be found shopping for awesome boots, listening to music, exercising, working on her very inadequate French, playing piano, or looking for inspiring landscapes to photograph.
