My Review:
**3.5 Stars**
MY OVERVIEW: This was my least favorite book in the series. It did wrap up everything in a neat little bow, but it seemed a little scattered at points.
PROS: Oh Tanner, you are such a great guy. :) I love how Kenzie's mom changed in this book. I think it was really great how their relationship grew by leaps and bounds throughout the whole book.
CONS: I feel that the whole thing with Kenzie's dad was just kinda thrown in there, like it didn't have as much thought put into it as the rest of the book. Also the weird creepy kid was never fully explained. I think that was the only thing that was left unfinished.
MY FINAL THOUGHTS: Not the ending I was hoping for, but still a good ending to the series. I know this is a short review and doesn't go through much, but the book seemed kinda rushed and there wasn't as much substance to comment on. Still.... good ending.
My Interview with Amber Garza:
1. Have you always wanted to be a writer?
Yes. I can't remember a time when I didn't. Recently I found a paper that I wrote back in second grade that said I wanted to be an author when I grew up. I've been making up stories since I was old enough to talk.
2. Are there any authors who have influenced your writing?
Absolutely. One of my favorite authors is Alice Hoffman. Her writing is haunting and lyrical. She really evokes a mood with her words. My writing is very different from hers, but my work is a little dark and I've gleaned a lot of knowledge from reading her work.
3. How did you come up with the concept for the Prowl Trilogy?
I wanted to write a teen series that was Christian based, but was similar to the mainstream books out there. I wanted it to be something a Christian teenager could relate to, feel proud to carry around and something they wouldn't be resistant to share with friends. The idea of the battle between good versus evil was simple - I felt that it's an issue every teen faces, so I just kind of went that route. I pulled from experiences from my teen years as well as other teens I know and came up with all the plot lines.
4. Who was your favorite character to write (out of the series) and why?
It would make sense for me to say Kenzie, since the books were written from her perspective, but honestly I think my favorite character to write was Tanner. That may seem funny to my readers since the majority of them were Isaac fans. But there was just something about Tanner and his character that I really connected with and I enjoyed writing his scenes a lot. I also had a blast writing Kenzie's mom. She was quirky and rough around the edges so it made it fun to write her.
5. What project are you working on now?
I just finished DAZZLE, the first book in my new YA series. This series is much different from Prowl, in that it is more your typical paranormal romance. There is a biblical parallel, but not everyone will pick up on it. The first book will release in October and I'm very excited about it.
6. Why did you choose the Young Adult genre?
A couple of different reasons. One is that when I was a teenager we didn't have this huge selection of wonderful teen titles. I mostly read adult fiction. It's exciting for me to be a part of such an incredible genre. Two is that my teen years were pivotal years for me. Let's face it: Teen years are tough! I wanted to give kids a great story to escape into but also a message of hope and truth.
7. Do you prefer to write with a pen and paper or on a laptop/computer?
Laptop/computer definitely.
8. What do you think makes a good story?
I think great characterization is key. If the reader connects with the characters they will follow them anywhere. A juicy romance always helps too.
9. How did you come up with the titles for each of the books in the series?
In the Prowl Trilogy each title coincides with the verse the book is based on, which can be found on the first page of each book.
10. Do you have any hobbies?
Other than writing and reading, I also sing.
11. Last question ~ Coffee, tea, or neither?
COFFEE!! And lots of it.
